Conversion of House in Multiple Occupation (HMO)
Project Brief
Our client wished to convert a House in Multiple Occupation into 3 self-contained flats.Project Outcome
The Local Planning Authority had refused the original planning application on the grounds that it would constitute ‘a loss of affordable housing units for which there is a continued need’.Get Planning and Architecture believed that they had grounds to overturn this decision through an appeal. This appeal was then refused by the officer on the grounds that the proposed flats were not of adequate size. However, in his decision he too disagreed with the council’s original concern about the loss of affordable housing, demonstrating that, as we had thought, this would not be the case.
Get Planning and Architecture then simply had to make slight modifications to the flat sizes and were free to obtain planning permission. Our client was delighted with the result and our expert handling of the case.
