Change of use to hostel
Project BriefIn a bid to develop their business and secure the viability of their pub for the future, our client had started using their pub’s premises as a backpackers’ hostel. However, they were not able to continue running their hostel until they had received the council’s permission for the change of use from A4 to Sui Generis.
They came to Get Planning to make the full retrospective planning application that they needed.
Project OutcomeGet Planning engaged in a pre-application dialogue with the council, meaning that we could identify any changes which may be needed for a successful application and build a rapport with the Local Planning Authority, maximising the chances of success for our client.
Following an encouraging pre-application dialogue, we made a full planning application, addressing the issues that the Local Planning Authority had raised in talks (including potential noise and disturbance, and parking) and highlighting the numerous benefits of the change of use. These included the fact that the hostel would provide much needed tourist accommodation in the area. As a result of our thorough negotiations and professional application, our client gained the approval that they needed.
