Kingston Planning & Conservation Areas

Conservation areas are sites of historical or architectural importance. Building and redevelopment can be a more complex process due to more planning regulations and constraints applying within such areas. However our highly trained staff have the expertise to address more challenging planning and design issues. We achieve the aims of our clients both on an aesthetic and functional level whilst adhering to regulations set out by the local planning authority.

Planning in Kingston

The number of residents in Kingston totals approximately 160,100 with around 63,600 households. The Borough itself operates a “Neighbourhood System” splitting Kingston into four areas. These are Kingston Town, Maldens and Coombe, South of the Borough and Surbiton. These four divisions cover all the wards that make up Kingston as a whole. Get Planning and Architecture has an excellent knowledge of this area and has completed architectural projects from the initial stages of design and planning through to development, not only in the housing sector but including office buildings and shops too.

Kingston Planning Applications & Appeals

In Kingston there are approximately 40 and 50 applications for planning permission made and about 8 are initially refused each week. Get Planning and Architecture is experienced in working closely with Kingston local planning authority. Where clients have been refused permission for building work we have liaised with both our customer and the local planning authority, amending plans, in order to appeal the local planning authority’s decision. We have had a high level of success in winning appeals.

Kingston News

A £1 million boost was recently given to modernise 1000’s of homes in Kingston-upon-Thames. The money was awarded after the council beat its targets. Better Homes is a £65m investment project that will last a total of 5 years and will be the largest council housing improvement programme in recent year.

The boost was awarded after Kingston Council achieved the target set by the Greater London Authority to complete work on 195 homes. In fact they did not only meet expectation they surpassed them, completing 403 properties by the end of the first year.

The modernisations include installing new kitchens, bathrooms as well as works to the outside of properties such as improvements to roofs and fitting new windows. As Kingston has exceeded their target the GLA advanced its grant funding allocating the council £3million, £1m more than previously planned.

Once the project is finished it will mean that all Kingston Council’s homes meet the Kingston Better Homes Standard and exceed Decent Homes minimum standard set out by the Government.

In other news, a draft development brief was created outlining the vision for a £500m regeneration project to transform Eden Quarter into a ‘new and vibrant mixed-use development in the heart of Kingston Town Centre’. If adopted, this development brief will be used to support and guide any future planning applications for the large and exciting project.
